The first team travelled to Weldon on a hot sunny day. Having lost yet another toss, Bowden were suprised that the hosts elected to bowl.
On a dry track the Bowden batsman found batting more difficult than anticipated. Opener Karl looked in form until he fell for (36) Tony Roberts top scored with (52) supported well by Alex Frith (40). Bowden made 205 from their 50 overs.
A tepid start from Weldon gave Bowden the advantage. Weldon were 32 for 3 but a middle order partnership between Jonny Freeman and Mark Haynes took the initiative away from Bowden. A mix of complacency and the hot weather gave Haynes and Freeman the opportunity to score. Haynes made (55) and Freeman remained unbeaten with a grafted century (101*). Weldon chased down 205 in the 47th over 8 wickets down. Sam Freer (4-63) and Wepener Groenewald (2-25) the pick of the bowlers.
Bowden travel to high flying West Haddon and Guilsborough next Saturday
