Friendly XI See Off Langtons

12 Aug 2018

The Bowden Sunday team hosted Langtons this week and, having won the toss, elected to bat. Despite losing opener Harry Wilford, the early order accumulated runs steadily with the batsmen Hyman (42) and Thornton (10) seeing off the quicker bowlers and three of the middle order (Wenlock, Hobbs and Soysa) reaching between forty and sixty. This allowed Bowden to reach a highly competitive total of 253 for 6 off their 40 overs.

In reply, Langtons too lost an early wicket (the first a bowled Hobbs, caught Hobbs combination).  However, the next partnership looked threatening with some attacking batting against the opening bowlers, Will Hobbs and Luke Ainsworth, and adding nearly 160 runs to the total despite Bowden attempting various methods to take a wicket. It took patient bowling by Wilford (1 for 41), Elizabeth Page (1 for 34) and Tom Ainsworth (0 for 33) before Wilford tempted Jayvick down the wicket and was stumped. Henry Soysa was soon brought on causing major problems to the middle and late order, finishing with 6 for 21. Luke Ainsworth (1 for 16) deservedly polished off the tail to leave Langtons 40 runs short.
