12 In A Row For 2s

12 Aug 2018

Bowden 2nds travelled to Barton Seagrave knowing that 32 points from the next 3 games guarantees promotion.

Bowden won the toss on a very wet wicket stand in captain Rob Gomez made the wise decision to bowl first. Bowden bowled with great control and being backed up by great fielding never let Barton Seagrave get away from them. Barton were restricted to  114 for 7, but their tail did wag but Bowden restricted them to 179 for 9, Ryan Wilson bowled fantastically(4-47) he was backed up by the young reliable Harry Wilford (3-39)

Rob Gomez rode his luck first ball almost falling to the deadly full toss only to be reprieved by some dubious fielding to then go on to take the first over for 18.

Gomez (28) and Nick Jelley (48) set a great foundation at the beginning of the innings followed by some starts from Dan Poynton and Sam Gomez.

The introduction of spin at both ends seemed to get into the heads of the Bowden batsmen, with unnecessary run outs and poor shot selection Bowden were 132 for 6 but the unflappable  Ben wade (22 not out) and the flamboyant Sam Atkins (12 not out) were able to see Bowden home winning by 3 wickets.

That win keeps Bowdens winning streak going to 12 games in a row and are still top of the league with 2 games to go. Next game is against second placed rivals Mears Ashby.Bowden require just  2 points from this game will guarantee promotion and victory could open up a healthy gap at the top with the season drawing to an end.
