Inclement Conditions Dampen Bowden Performance

15 May 2016

Bowden 1st Team vs Wellingborough 2nds.

After last week's victory, Bowden first team tasted defeat once again at home against Wellingborough 2nds.

With gloomy conditions, it was unsurprising that whoever lost the toss would be inserted to bat. The visitors guessed correctly and predictably Bowden batted first.

Losing an early wicket, set the tone for the Bowden innings. Bowden toiled against the Wellingborough seamers. With the exception of Anthony Paton (72) and Ben Watts (19) the batsman struggled to accumulate the runs. Bowden finishing on a modest 163 all out from 47 overs.

After the tea interval, Wellingborough made a slow start to their innings. In form bowler Joe Whitworth (1-38) and young Jack Bellamy, kept the batsman tied down in the early stages.

But, as time passed the weather conditions deteriorated and a persistent drizzle hindered the bowling of Bowden.

A  valiant effort from the returning Ben Watts (3-43) and Tony Roberts gave hope to the hosts. The effect of the rain possibly hampered Bowdens chances, the seam had swollen and the ball became harder for the bowlers to control. This giving Wellingborough a certain advantage, which they seized to take victory.

Wellingborough chasing down the total in 43.4 overs losing four wickets.

Bowden travel to play Wellingborough Old Grammarians next week.
