Bowden Women's and Girls'
Bowden Women's and Girls' team won their first match of the season against newcomers to the Last Woman Stands League, West Haddon and Guilsborough.
Bowden lost the toss and were put into bat. Despite only having six players, Collette Wale and Flora England put on a good opening partnership of 30 off the first 5 overs before Flora (12 off 15 balls) was out caught. Collette Wale (17 off 19) soon followed also caught going for a big shot.
This brought together Sophie Tweddle and Sian Pyne who continued in a similar vein to the openers, keeping the good deliveries out and pushing the runs at a steady rate. A couple of catching chances went down but the pair put on another 70 to finish on 100 for 2 off the 20 overs. Pyne finishing unbeaten on 36 off 40 and Tweddle 32 no off 39.
The Bowden innings started well with both openers being run out by Collette Wale. Sian was on a hat-trick in her first over (both bowled) but the third wicket ball was well played by Lara Naylor who was eventually run out for 32 by a good throw from Emma Wardrop.
Sophie Tweddle bowled a tight line in her spell. The run rate became too high in the closing overs and in the fading light Wale bowled the last over, she clean bowled Annika Allen. The final wicket falling by a run out off the last ball by Sian Pyne, aided by good 'keeping by Flora England, Bowden winning by 33 runs.
Although West Haddon and Guilsborough are a new team, they played to a good standard and could do well in the league.
However, Bowden despite missing a couple of players, gave a good all round performance, and their experience of this, their third season in this league saw them through.
Next week's match is away to Burton Latimer on Wednesday 11th May.
