Bowden travelled to Medbourne enjoying 2 competitive games against their hosts despite the damp conditions. In the first game, captain for the evening Charles Lindsay won the toss and elected to bat. He and Henry Brammer got Bowden off to a good start to set a solid base for the pairs following to build on. The middle order batsmen Thomas Clegg and Luke Armstrong contributed well and then the final pair of Felix Brown and Francis Clegg hit some excellent shots and ran well to bring Bowden home to a total of 250. Impressively, no wickets were lost in the Bowden innings. In their reply, Medbourne’s first 2 pairs were held in check by some good bowling and fielding, both Thomas Frith and Henry Brammer taking wickets. However, Medbourne’s last 2 pairs came out all guns blazing and mounted a charge to threaten the Bowden total. The last ball of the innings was powerfully struck but an excellent stop by Joshia White saved the boundary Medbourne needed to tie the game, Bowden winning by 3 runs.
The second game against another Medbourne side ended in a loss, ending Bowden’s 4 game winning streak. Again winning the toss and deciding to bat the Bowden innings never really progressed as they would like. In contrast to the first match, Bowden lost wickets at regular intervals and only managed to amass 215. Medbourne were made to struggle for their runs by some tight Bowden bowling. However, in only losing one wicket during their innings Medbourne were always in control, ending up on a total of 236. Well done to all for some good performances on the night.
