Bowden girls had a successful day at the Ketton Cricket Festival on Sunday 7th June. They played two games, winning both.
In the first game of nine overs a side, they fielded first. Once they had got used to the hot conditions and lightning fast outfield, Bowden took wickets at regular intervals. There were two wickets each for Emma Wardrop and Claudia Carnduff, which restricted the opposition to 63 for 6. Emma and Charlotte Hyman got Bowden’s their innings off to a tremendous start with several fine boundaries in a partnership of 48 from their three overs. This was followed up with a partnership of 23 by Hannah Roberts and Louise Fernandez-Smith. The final total was 87 for 2.
The second game was much tighter. Charlotte and Emma again set the tone with an opening partnership of 26. This time Claudia and Carys Pyne reinforced the earlier good work with a stand of 20. The final total was 58 for 4. Bowden were then excellent in the field with a very disciplined display. The highlights were two wickets during Charlotte’s overs and three during Hannah’s. The opposition could only manage 49 for 6.
Bowden’s Captain, Emma, led from the front throughout and deservedly accepted the prize on behalf of her team as winners of their group. It was a fine overall team performance, which showed the value of bowling straight, taking catches and keeping wickets intact.
