Twenty20 Northamptonshire Cup
Midweek skipper Anthony Paton won the toss and elected to bat at a gloomy and drizzly West Lodge Farm.
Karl Pollard and Paton started the Bowden innings well putting on 73 in the first 10 overs. Paton (39 - 4x4s & 2x6s) with his trademark bunts and Pollard hitting very straight over the infield.
Pollard (64 not out 7x4s & 2x6s) guided Bowden to 144-4 - a respectable score against a team 3 leagues above them..
After a reasonably tight start from the Bowden bowlers, a standout display from young Jack Bellamy who dismissed the Desborough overseas with his first ball, produced one is his finest spells for Bowden under extreme pressure (4-1-15-1).
Wickets fell at regular intervals with some excellent catches from Alex Frith & Dan Broughton.
Karl Pollards produced four miserly overs, conceding only 15 runs.
Desborough generally kept up with the required run rate.
But the nature of how the game finished was somewhat rather disappointing. .Bowden, penalised for a slow over rate, given a 6 run penalty for being 4 minutes slower than the scheduled finish.
This allowed Desborough to reach the newly revised total.
A cruel blow for what could've been a major scalp for underdogs Bowden against tough local opposition.
Bowden can take many positives from the match and head into the plate competition in positive spirits
