Bowden bowlers take St Crispins down to the wire.

Two consecutive defeats leaves Bowden’s first team seventh in Division 4 of the Northants Combination League.


Captain Karl Pollard won the toss and elected to bat on a flat pitch. Having lost opener Anthony Paton caught and bowled in the first over. Skipper Pollard falling soon after chasing after a wide delivery. Bowden were hoping not to echo the top order batting collapse from the previous week.


An intelligent innings from Dan Masic (50) and a patiently structured knock from Ben Wade (28) steadied Bowden.

After a brief interruption by thunder Bowden were all out for a modest 166 after 48.1 overs.


After the tea break, the visitors made a steady start. A quickfire 30 from opening batsman Afridi Khan gave St Crispins the early advantage. Wickets tumbled throughout the innings, but talisman Brian Davis (62) provided the foundation for the away team.

Despite fine bowling displays from Joe Whitworth (3-45), Dan Broughton (2-32) and an impressive all round effort from Dan Masic (3-39). St Crispins limped over the line winning by one wicket.
