Desborough 202, Bowden 279 in a U11’s pairs format.
Having lost the toss, Bowden were asked to bat first. The opening pair Freddy Verbruggen and Thomas Ainsworth adding nine runs but confusion between the wickets led to a run out for Ainsworth.
Aiden Bartholomew (Captain) and Sebastion Fernandes-Smith (Vice Captain) cemented a solid innings for Bowden with 14 runs between them. Two massive fours from Fernandes-Smith being the highlight.
The wides were now racking up the Bowden score when Luke Barwick and Charles Lindsay faced the bowling, they were unable to add to their own run totals but did not concede a wicket and came off the field content with their efforts.
The final pair, Oliver Howland and Joe Pearson, both had a solid innings adding 6 and 7 runs respectively. At the close of the innings Bowden were at 279, with 48 runs coming from extras.
The bowling for Bowden was opened by Fernandes-Smith and Ainsworth. Their two overs each were an inexpensive start for Bowden, with Ainsworth jubilant to achieve a season opening wicket maiden. Fernandes-Smith was also effective only allowing Desborough two runs and taking two wickets. The great bowling continued with Bartholomew and Howland pinging in the balls at pace which restricted Desborough to add only ten runs. Howland with a double wicket maiden, including an excellent caught and bowled.
Throughout the match Barwick was excellent as wicket keeper, staying sharp and stopping balls running through for quick singles. The next pair of bowlers, Lindsay and Pearson kept the score for Desborough pegged back. Pearson having a strong start to his season.
Lindsay, new to the team, struggled to fine the target at first, but improved throughout his spell. His patient approach was rewarded as he was elected by Skipper Bartholomew and his deputy Fernandes-Smith to bowl an additional over.
Closing the bowling was Verbruggen with Captian Bartholomew. Verbruggen bowled fast and only gave away three runs. Bartholomew sealing the victory for Bowden with the final ball of the game!
