Sileby v Bowden Cricket Club Junior Girls on Mon 19 Mar 2012 at 20:00
Bowden Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
Bowden's Girls may have ended this tournament without a win, but they must surely take great heart from some fantastic performances, both individually and, perhaps more importantly, collectively, as a TEAM.
The spirit the girls have played the games in has won them many friends, and that elusive victory cannot be far away.
Tonights game had an added twist, as, in the Sileby team, was Sophie's sister Katie - having won the toss, Katie inserted the Bowden team!
Emily and Naomi got the innings off to a flyer as both scored boundaries in the first over. The early impetus did not however, last long as twice wickets went down in consecutive deliveries. At 28-4 in the 4th over, an early finish looked on the cards.
It didn't turn out that way as Naomi (40no) and Sophie T (27no) batted through the remaining overs in an unbroken stand of 68. Sophie taking particular delight in smacking Katie straight back for 4, whilst Naomi took pleasure in clubbing the first Bowden 6 of the tournament. A feature of the partnership was some fine running, made particularly tricky as Eleanor reprised her role as Sophie's runner!!
When Sileby batted they always managed to stay just ahead of the asking rate. Katie gained revenge over Sophie by whacking a no ball for 6, (how different it may have been if Rob had held a catch the ball before!!!)
Eleanor gained the biggest cheer of the night when she fired one through Katie's defences to rearrange the stumps. Emily claimed her 4th run out of the tournament, but, having already retired two batsmen, Sileby reached their target with 11 balls to spare.
This tournament has given the Girls a great 'warm up' as the outdoor season approaches. Each one of the 6 has 'stepped up' and made valuable contributions, either with bat, ball, or in the field at various stages.
Thanks to all of the parents for their support, I'm sure the gfirls appreciated it, although they seemed pretty vocal and did a good job of 'cheerleading' by themselves!!!
