Bowden Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs
Match report
A second match in a week for the Girls saw Sileby Ladies visit ‘The Rec’ for a rematch.
The Bowden team saw 6 changes from the side which visited Ibstock, and included two debutants – Sian Pyne and Yasmin Welton.
Batting first, Sileby made steady, if unspectacular progress as the Bowden bowlers kept a tight line. The opening partnership has reached 43, before Setchell played all round a delivery from Sian and was clean bowled for 17. Wright then retired on 19, bringing Katie Tweddle and Wright to the crease. This pair took the score on to 68 before they too retired for 10 and 8 respectively. Lay departed soon after, without scoring, deceived in the flight by Sophie Gomez, leaving Just and Markham-Hill to see out the remaining 9 balls and close the Sileby innings on 86-2. Pick of the bowlers was Eleanor, 2 overs for only 2 runs, with Sian (1-22) and Sophie (1-11), the wicket takers.
The run chase suffered an early setback when Flora England (1) was caught with the score on 9. Jess Noble then joined Eleanor and together they added 14 before the loss of Jess (0) triggered a mini collapse with Rosie Burke and Jo Weston despatched in quick succession without troubling the scorers. From 27-4, Eleanor and Sophie put together our best stand of the match, adding a further 16 runs, before Sophie was caught, and Eleanor retired, both with 5 runs to their name. Yasmin opened her account with a nice pull, before being beaten by Walker’s faster ball, while Imogen Keenan (2) fell to the last ball of the innings. The final total 52-7 and victory to Sileby by 34 runs, which shows the strides made by the girls following the 99 run defeat in the first fixture.
