Bowden Cricket Club Lost By 10 runs

Match report Bowden faced tough opposition this evening but acquitted themselves well before going down by just 10 runs. Hinckley batted first and, despite fine bowling by Reeve (2-12), Granger (1-13), Lane (1-19) and Morris (1-20) and good support from Sayles and Thornton, amassed 119. Mention should be made of fine fielding by Cartwright (fresh from his season's best the previous evening), Hackett and Douglas (a fine catch).
This sizeable total appeared daunting with key batsmen Thornton, Soysa, Morris, Digby and Cartwright all returning to the pavillion. Throughout Matthew Sayles was batting assuredly, calmly compiling a steady score. At 45 for 5 the game seemed over when Reeve strode out to join Sayles. However Sayles and Reeve set about the bowlers compiling an unbeaten stand of 64 off just over 6 overs. It was squeeky bum time for Hinckley but sadly Bowden just ran out of overs. Reeve finished on 29 not out and Sayles 40 not out (that's 112 for once out in his last three innings). The season is ending just at the wrong time for this team.
