Match report Bowden 2nd XI crashed to an 8 wicket defeat at the hands of promoted Raunds Town on Saturday. A lack of depth in the bowling department meant the villagers didn’t have enough penetration to put the home side under any pressure in chasing down a victory target of 137 in the penultimate game of the league season.

Batting first on a damp surface, Bowden got off to a reasonable start. The side’s senior players all managed to get themselves in on the pitch but ultimately paid the price for not grinding out a score. Gary Waterfield (9) and Tony Marlow (19) laid a solid opening platform and Steve Oldfield (13) and Simon Linsell (17) continued to build the innings. Some useful late contributions from Lee Munton (19), Henry Hall (14) and Joe Robinson (10) bolstered the innings but a score of 136 never looked like to trouble a strong Raunds side.

Without an early breakthrough, the home side’s openers of Tony Cox (26) and James York (34) ensured the town side were halfway to their target before Lee Munton (1 for 30) struck with the first wicket. The only other bowler to record a wicket was Malcolm Walker (1 for 32) as Bowden tried six bowlers in an attempt to rescue something from their disappointing season.
