Match report There was a disappointing reverse for Bowden's 2nd XI on Saturday after last week's heroics, when Podington were the visitors to the Rec. But again there were some solid performances from senior and junior players and the side remain confident of a good season to come.

Bowden chose to bat first, a policy which seems to suit them although at 18 for 3 in the 15th over it wasn't looking promising. It needed a couple of wise heads to dig in and rebuild the innings, something which arrived in the form of Gary Waterfield (67) and Khush Patel (52) who put on a very well crafted partnership of 116 in even time. The rest of the team chipped in with valuable runs towards the end of the innings and a closing total of 170 when the final wicket fell in the penultimate over looked defendable.

Yet again, young Tom Reeve (0 for 17) bowled exceedingly well in his opening burst, beating the outside edge on a number of occasions. Ali Williams (1 for 37) reeled off 8 overs and Henry Moss (0 for 21) had his first bowl for the senior side and impressed with a number of hostile deliveries. But Podington have some experienced cricketers at this level and Alan Coleman (75 not out) and Alan Walker (51) did the damage with a second wicket partnership 120 which secured the points for the visitors as they cruised past the victory target in the 33rd over. Ali Gordon (1 for 17) picked up the only other wicket to fall.
