Match report A catastrophic batting display by Bowden’s 2nd XI saw them humiliated at the Rec on Saturday. On a perfect pitch, the village side were skittled out for a miserable 34 runs in just under 21 overs. The visitors then cantered to their victory target in 6 overs for the loss of just one wicket. The match was all over by 3.30pm.

The tone for the match was set with the very first ball of the game. Bowden had won the toss and looked to take advantage of a hard and even surface, but opener, Gary Waterfield (0) fell to the opening delivery, clean bowled by Adam Weston (2 for 13). A procession of wickets followed, and at 15 for 6 Bowden were in danger of recording their lowest ever competitive score. Some crisp shots from Jake Noble (10) helped ensure that the ignominy of setting a new record was avoided but the home side’s innings was all over in just over an hour.

Finedon had no difficulty in passing the meagre total although Jack Rose (1 for 15) did bowl with hostility in claiming his first wicket for the club, when Kunjan Amin (2) was well caught behind the wicket by Jake Noble.

Bowden will quickly need to put this humiliation out of their minds by the time they travel to St Michaels next week.
