Wellingborough Indians 2nds v Bowden Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1.00pm

Match report
Great Bowden travelled to Wellingborough Indians and outplayed their hosts in every department but ultimately were not able to force a win. Bowden were put in to bat on a good wicket. They stuck assiduously to their plan of cautiously accumulating runs in the early stages in order to have wickets in hand for later on. Mick Brammer was the mainstay of the innings only surrendering his wicket in the 47th over after he had scored 79 runs. In the course of his innings he formed one of the largest partnerships in the Club’s history of 185 with Tony Roberts.
Roberts had scored 104 before he was bowled in the 42nd over. That brought Chris Knowles to the wicket in conditions that allowed him to play his natural attacking game. After a blistering onslaught on the Wellingborough bowlers in the eight remaining overs Knowles finished on 60 not out. It enabled Bowden to record one of their highest ever totals and asked Wellingborough to make 270 to win.
Wellingborough were never in the hunt. They started to lose wickets from the 5th over and had subsided to 71 for seven by the 32nd over. Special note needs to be made of Rob Gomez’s figures of four for 34. Ross Ginns, who was making his debut for Bowden, took a wicket in each of his first two overs.
In this situation Wellingborough had little choice but to shut up shop and made no attempt to add to their total. Bowden tried all sorts of tactics to make a break-through. They used eight different bowlers and, at one stage, had only one fielder on the leg side. By this time, however, the wicket was so benign that no further chances were presented and Wellingborough played out the last 18 overs to reach 131 for seven, less than half the Bowden total.
A performance such as this will send a message to the rest of the teams in the division and Bowden will go into next week’s game against Ashby Timkin looking to produce another positive performance.
