Women's Team Has Creditable 'Last Wicket Stands' Season

23 Jul 2015

Bowden women's team met Oundle in the semi-final of the Last Woman Stands competition having finished third in the league of five teams.

Bowden won the toss and batted on the artificial wicket at Burton Latimer. Losing opener Collette Wale second ball was a blow but captain Emily Jefferson and Emily Wilford had a very good stand of 83, with Emily J retiring on 50 off just 31 deliveries. Sian Pyne kept the score ticking with a couple of well-struck fours but was then caught with just a couple of overs remaining. Charlotte Hyman supported Emily W to the end to finish on 110 for 2 off their 20 five ball overs, Emily not out 45.

Oundle openers started steadily with Olivia Birkenshaw being bowled for 20 by Emily Ws first delivery and Zoe Wilson, following Emily J, retiring on 50 from 43 balls. Oundle's batters stayed ahead of the rate until the 16th over when some tight bowling from Emily J and Collette left Oundle needing one run from the last over. A well-taken catch by Sian from the first ball of Collette's over worried the Oundle team but they reached their target with just two ball remaining.

Next Wednesday's third place playoff is again at Burton Latimer at 6.30 against the losers of the match between Thrapston and Burton Latimer.

Thanks to all who supported the team and hope to see you at next week's match if not at training on Friday. And I'm glad to report that Collette's parents didn't make her walk home.....
