Bowden's women defeat Ibstock by 6 runs in the first match of the indoor league

30 Jan 2013

Bowden Women's cricket team won their opening match of the indoor league season against Ibstock with an excellent effort with both bat and ball. Having lost the toss, Bowden batted first and in this new format, scored 47 in their ten four-ball overs. Sophie Tweddle top scoring with 13 not out had good support from her opening partner, Collette Whale who was run out for 4 trying to increase the pace. Further support for Sophie, who hit three good straight fours, from Eleanor Robinson took the score to a total that was respectable but certainly not out of reach.

However, the Bowden bowling was accurate and pacey from the start. Emily Jefferson setting the tone in her first over. The Bowden bowlers never let Ibstock get into their stride with Sophie Gomez being the most accurate, taking one for four in her two overs, Sian Pyne taking a good catch low down to get Ibstock’s opener out for three.

The score was moving along steadily but was behind the asking rate when the second wicket fell, with Whale demonstrating her accuracy by bowling Anderson for three. The target proved too much for Ibstock who finished on 41. A particular mention for the youngest, and newest member of the team Sian Pyne who fitted in very well from the start.

All four matches in the series are played at Babington College in Leicester.  Bowden’s next match is against Sileby Town on Monday 18th Feb at 7pm and it is expected that they may prove to be an even stiffer opponent.
