A poor 1st XI performance leaves Bowden uncertain of their status in Division 4 next season

05 Sep 2010

Bowden 's 1st XI remain in a relegation fight with the six teams around them after a very disappointing result at second placed Raunds at the weekend. With 2 matches of the season left a win will assure the side of their position in division 4 next season.

Sam Freer won the toss for the visitors and asked Raunds to bat first on a damp looking pitch. Eddie Ingram (1 for 24) claimed an early wicket but the second wicket partnership realised 100 runs before Rob Gomez (6 for 55) made a much need breakthrough. The momentum was with the batting side and some useful middle and late order contributions ensured Raunds  claimed maximum batting points, closing their innings at 205 for 8 in their 50 overs. Sam Freer (1 for 35) and Chris Knowles (2 for 25) claimed the other wickets to fall.

Raunds started strongly after tea. Gary Waterfield (4) and Steve Oldfield (0) fell cheaply before Danny Varnsverry (11) and Chris Knowles (17) offered some resistance. Bowden were always behind the run rate and wickets began to fall regularly. Only Rob Gomez (13) and Jake Noble (19 not out) managed to play with any patience but by then the games was all but over. The innings was eventually wrapped up in the 34th over with Bowden bowled out for a miserly 83.
