Hi all,
Bowden Cricket Club enjoyed their end of season presentation dinner recently (October 30) - and many thanks to Charlie Standley for hosting the event and writing this summary
Held at Harborough Town Football Club, the event featured a three-course meal, player of the season awards, a raffle, and a disco.
The Sunday XI player of the season went to 14-year-old Freddie Wilson, a prodigious all-rounder who scored two fifties including his first ever in senior cricket.
His grandfather, Lee Wilson, picked up the Saturday 2nd XI bowling award. He took the most wickets in the entire division at a miserly average of just over ten apiece. The team's batting and overall player of the year award went to team captain Dan Wenlock who scored four fifties across the campaign.
In the women's side top run-scorer Lucy Matthews-Kirk won the best batter award with Carys Pyne claiming the best bowler. Most improved players of the season went to the mother and daughter combo of Julia Trapp and Poppy Page, and skipper Flora England collected the player of the season gong for strong performances in both the women's and the men's teams.
The first team's bowler of the season was quickie Josh Bott; ever-reliable opening bat Anthony Paton (who was also thanked for organising a fantastic evening) claimed the batting award and club captain Fran Finnemore was player of the season for accomplished performances with the bat and ball, as well as taking the most catches in the division.
The under 17s captain Harry Wilford, an all-rounder who bats in the top order and bowls off-spin, won the best junior in senior cricket award. And the blue-ribbon prize - 'clubman of the year', will have to be renamed as for the first time it was won by a female. Flora England's contribution to furthering women's cricket at Bowden both on and off the field, as well as her contribution to the day-to-day running of the club, was rightly recognised.
The future of the men's and women's sections at Bowden looks bright for 2022 as for the first time ever the former will field a third team on Saturdays with a view to blooding even more youngsters in senior cricket; and the latter will make its debut in the East Midlands Womens' leagues in the 11-a-side competition.
This report will be published in the Harborough Mail and is on the Bowden CC Facebook page so please like and share to generate interest!
thanks
Anthony
