The u13xi travelled to Weekly and Warkton for their final
match of the season. The home team won the toss and batted and Bowden kept them
in check for much of the innings, restricting them to 112-6 off 20 overs. It
was a tidy effort against a strong batting side with wickets for Dylan Pearson,
Theo Mercer, Finn Colman, James Parry and George Williams. There was a smart
performance behind the stumps by Freddie Wilson with a stumping and a catch and
a run out by Fynn Colley.
In reply bowden struggled against the pace of the home sides
bowlers in the gathering gloom, Freddie Wilson (17) and Theo Mercer (14) stood
firm and only due to the genoristy of the home side giving away 43 extras kept
bowden in the hunt. Captain Fynn Colley was struck a sickening blow below the
ribs and had to retire hurt, but showed great bravery returning to the crease
at the fall of the 8th wicket. When Colley was ninth out, bowden still needed
30 to win off 4 overs. Some brave batting and adventurous running by James
Parry and Dylan Pearson (12) left bowden just 8 runs short.
This brought the season to a close for the u13xi who gave
fought bravely throughout and improved as the season went on, with a number of
close fought, close finishes. The team an be very proud of their efforts this
season.
