Firsts Lose Out In Promotion Race

17 Sep 2017

Bowden’s first team face their 9th season in Division 4 after Geddington 2nds clinch promotion by 2 points.

Visitors Rushton 2nds won the toss and elected to bat. Bowden knew that maximum points would give them a chance of promotion. Chris Weir (1-40) and Dan Broughton made use of the damp, green track which aided seam movement.

Already relegated Rushton, never looked to be able to settle in and score freely. Sam Freer (3-3) and Tony Roberts (3-27) restricted Rushton to 88 all out in 34.2 overs.

Karl Pollard (43*) and Anthony Paton (40*) made short work of the run chase. Completing the task in just 16.2 overs.

Despite some inclement weather Geddington 2nds were able to chase down 180 posted by fellow promotion rivals Overstone 2nds,  granting them promotion to Division 3.

After the first team miss out on promotion to Div 3 by two points and the 2nds missing out by four points to go to Division 7, Bowden can take plenty of positives from the season after both teams took their pursuit for promotion down to the wire.
