First Team Take It To Final Match

10 Sep 2017

The promotion campaign for Bowden’s First Team will be decided on the final game of the season, after a winning draw against Poddington.

Captain Karl Pollard won the toss and elected to bat. A couple of early wickets fell fairly cheaply, an attacking display from Sam Gomez (25) stimulated the Bowden batting effort. After a rain break that removed 8 overs from the game, Alex Frith and Dan Broughton both made 49 runs each in the middle order and laid the foundation for Bowden to make 210 for 9, Karl Pollard declaring in the 46th over.

Bowden, had 46 overs to take all 10 wickets for victory. Dan Broughton consistently beat the outside edge, making life difficult for the Poddington batsman. Poddington had absolutely no intention in chasing down the target set by Bowden. Their passive and mundane approach became ever more frustrating as the innings progressed. Poddington nullified Bowdens bowling attack, despite wickets for Sam Freer (3-18) and Dan Broughton (2-31). Skipper, Karl Pollard making frequent bowling changes to no avail. Poddington making 129 for 5 from 46 overs.

Bowden are two points behind Geddington 2nds, knowing that a victory against already relegated Rushton at home is a must for any chance of Division 3 cricket next season.
