Comfortable win for Bowden Pinks in Last Woman Stands League

29 May 2016

Following two rained off fixtures, the Bowden Pinks were away to Oundle at Burton Latimer this week. A cold and overcast evening, Captain Collette Wale won the toss and put Oundle in to bat.

Their opening bats got off to a steady start but from the first ball of the third over, Olivia Burkinshaw picked out Sian Pyne at cover who took a sharp catch low down. Oundle’s other opener was run out from the first ball of the eleventh over by some quick fielding by Captain Wale and good keeping by Emily Wilford, who impressed throughout..

The bowlers kept things tight in the latter overs with Sophie Tweddle conceding only 6 runs in her last three overs and Elizabeth Page, playing her first game for Bowden, finishing with a respectable 0-14 from her four overs. The third wicket was LBW in Sian Pyne’s final over and Collette’s final over went for only two, leaving Bowden with 88 to win.

Tweddle and Wale opened but the early loss of Tweddle,  bowled by a good delivery from Burkinshaw in the third over (9 for 1) brought Pyne to the crease. These are two of the most experienced players for the Bowden Pinks and this showed with both playing good shots to the poor deliveries and defending the better ones. Despite some tight bowling from Lilieann Scott and Alice Smyth in the middle overs, Pyne (34) and Wale (47) saw Bowden home in the fifteenth over.

Another very good performance by all the girls.
